The Volkswagen New Beetle (Type 9C) is a passenger car produced by the German automaker Volkswagen from 1997 to 2012. The New Beetle was born from the idea of evoking the famous Beetle, reinterpreting its lines in a modern key. Specifically, the idea for the New Beetle came from designers J Mays and Thomas (the latter also designed the Audi TT), both working at the Volkswagen Design Center opened in California in the early 1990s.
