Excalibur Automobile Corp., founded in Milwaukee, Wisconsin in 1965, was the first automaker to create contemporary classics or neoclassics, inspired by models from the 1920s and 1930s. The first models were inspired by the 1928 Mercedes-Benz SS and Bugattis of the same period.
Production has always been quite limited, both in terms of numbers and model types. The body styles chosen were basically just two, roadster and phaeton, while the engines were almost entirely large-displacement V8s.
The car was primarily successful as a ceremonial vehicle and is still readily available in this particular market.
